Alzheimer's affect on Herb (my mother's perspective)
Growing up my father did typical boy things, he played football for his high school, was a tennis player, and a member of ROTC. Despite his physical achievements, he was known for his mind. He had an incredible memory, he could remember everyone's name and details about their life effortlessly. On top of that he was a fantastic communicator. These skills combined made him a great debtor and later a great minister. His sermons where eloquent and thoughtful. Dad was often asked to speak at community events because people knew he would do a great job. As an adult he read several books every week, adding to his vast knowledge. People often called his mind a steal trap saying once something went in it never came out. The tragedy of Alzheimer's for him was that it robbed him of these strengths. With Alzheimer's his memory was a huge weakness and eventually he lost the ability to communicate effectively. The once steal trap turned into swiss cheese.
